Bodegas Roda has achieved its increasing competitiveness through an exhaustive study of the vineyard management and breeding techniques.

Within this framework, the strategic goal of the project is to help the European vineyard sector facing the increasingly global competition. To achieve taht goal, Bodegas Roda will work, with 26 European partners, to satisfy consumers demands for diversified high quality wines and concerns for food safety, by meeting requests for environmental-friendly production systems that avoid or minimize the use of pesticides and spare of not renewable natural resources. The INNOVINE project will provide the European viticulture with plant material, tools and methods to help it cope with the negative impacts of Climate Change.

The sulfur dioxide (SO2), is widely used in winemaking and indeed most food industries, because of its antioxidant and antibacterial properties. Nevertheless, sulfur dioxide has some negative effects.

This project led by Bodegas Roda with the cooperation of three partners has the goal of developing a new oenological itinerary to reduce and/or avoid the need for (SO2) additions during winemaking. To reach this overall goal Roda will apply food technology and knowledge previously developed in wine growing.

Stuck fermentation in winemaking is responsible for high economic losses, whatever its cause. There are several potential causes of a stuck fermentation-the most common are a must deficiency in the nitrogen food source, excessive temperatures and/or high alcohol content.

FITOTOX 2013 aims to identify and learn about another possible cause of stuck fermentation, little studied to date, and emanating from the antimicrobial activity of certain phenolic compounds of the grape itself, which can affect the rate and extent of fermentation (FOH), although in the literature there are no studies on Saccharomyces cerevisae. They may also have an impact on the development of malolactic fermentation (MLF).

The overall objective of the cooperative project FITOTOX 2013, led by Bodegas Roda, is the extraction, characterizacion and evaluation of antimicrobial activity against Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Oenococcus oeni and of phenolic compounds from grape musts and wines. From the results obtained, this study is intended to produce solutions that avoid the negative effects of stuck fermentation.

Bodegas RODA through VINySOST project aims to respond to the main scientific-technical challenges of the wine sector which, betting on sustainable production in vineyards, seeks to increase the competitiveness os our wines nationally and internationally.

This is a project in partnership from CIEN programme (CIEN, is the acronym of the Strategic Programme of National Business Research Consortiums managed by CDTI) constituted by 8 companies and supported by 10 Spanish Research organizations, which has a fundable budget of 7.45 M €.
