CLIMATIC CYCLE
Quantity and quality. Perfect distribution of the rain. 465,5 mm. of precipitations in the vine-growing year. The weather was excellent during the harvest, very dry October with only 5,3 mm. of precipitations. The fermentations were complicated due to high temperatures.
Grape variety:
100% Tempranillo.
Vineyards:
Bush vines over 30 years old, yields limited to 1,5 kgs. per vine.
Grape harvest:
From the 1st to the 25th of October.
Fermentation:
In French oak vats, with controlled temperature.
Ageing:
In French oak barrels, 1/3 new, 1/3 second use and 1/3 more uses. 24 months in barrels and 12 months in bottles.
Stabilization:
By natural methods, clarification using only egg whites, without filtration.
Alcohol:
13,5% Vol.
Colour:
High layer of good intensity, with orange trim, curiously it is more evolved than 94.
Nose:
A cloud of coffee notes appears with lots of black fruit coming from below and a bed of sweet spices. It has great expressiveness and black plums and chocolate stand out. There is a certain very pleasant liquor. It brings to mind a chocolate bonbon filled with plum liqueur.
Palate:
It is very broad, sweet and pleasant, really good and pleasant, it is like a very fresh caramel that does not stop bringing out aromas of black fruits, round, caressing and fresh.
With a long aftertaste and a very powerful retronasal route, the plum remains in the memory accompanied by a thousand nuances of sweet spices. Voluptuous and big.
The 2004 and 2005 vintages have always been antagonistic and magnificent, 2004 austere, pure, deep and direct, 2005 voluptuous, round, ornate and rich.
Tasting held in Haro on March 29th, 2017
