RODA I
Black fruit in a wine with character that maintains the freshness of the fruit.
RODA I is blended with parcels that that year have ripened in a black fruit profile. The deep black fruit, is almost always dominated by the plumb and supported by mineral notes, chocolate and balsamic sensations, that form an ensemble that slowly flows from the furthest side of the glass until it becomes huge in the entrance of the nose. In the mouth, the volume becomes evident, the fruit complexity nicely surrounds the mouth cavity showing the numerous and polished tannins. The wine gets longer making stronger the retro nasal sensation every time we breathe. A fruity and fresh sensation will last, inviting us to continue drinking.

CLIMATIC CYCLE

2020 was a humid vintage in which it rained 635 mm. in the village of Haro. Winter was sufficiently warm, although marked by unpleasant fogs.

Spring was mild and very rainy. Around 200 mm. of rain were gathered between March and April. Bud break happened ahead of time. May was less humid with high temperatures. Flowering was advanced for 15 days.

The first half of June was cold and humid with very low minimum temperatures (below 10ºC). Clusters had a severe Downy Mildew attack (that didn’t produce stains on leaves), that affected entire areas with important crop losses. On June the 12th the D.O. Ca limited for the first time the yields to 90% because of COVID-19. Intermittent rains continued and Mildew got extended.

July was cool at the beginning with high temperatures at its end. Veraison began on July the 20th, more than two weeks in advance. Ripening was excellent, the weather helped. Wines have a very good quality, good concentration, fine tannins, showing up its delicacy at an early stage and are fresh.

TASTING

Colour:

Deep, very dark red with notes of cherry and a red rim.

Nose:

Very intense, fruity, with a profile of black fruits and some flashes of red fruits. Reminiscent of black plum and ripe cherries. There are background notes of sweet spices, ranging from cinnamon and cloves. Aromatic herbs also appear, drawing you directly into the landscape of the Haro vineyard.

Palate:

High-bodied, with impeccable tannins, leaving a velvety sensation. Plum and cherry define the fruit line, which can be strongly appreciated in waves at retronasal level. There are many details in this wine, which is already at a magnificent moment to enjoy. It's surprising to taste that it's more drinkable than the previous vintage, 2019. The 2020 vintage produced wines of great delicacy, linked to a vineyard that remained uncontaminated, in communion with nature and the winemaker, while the world was in lockdown. It may not be the most powerful and voluminous vintage, but it is one of the finest and most delicate.
