CLIMATIC CYCLE
Quantity and quality. Perfect distribution of the rain. 465,5 mm. of precipitations in the vine-growing year. The weather was excellent during the harvest, very dry October with only 5,3 mm. of precipitations. The fermentations were complicated due to the high temperatures.
Grape varieties:
77% Tempranillo, 23% Garnacha.
Vineyards:
Bush vines over 30 years old, yields limited to 1,5 kgs. per vine.
Grape harvest:
From the 1st to the 25th of October.
Fermentation:
In French oak vats, with controlled temperature.
Ageing:
1/3 brand new, 1/3 second use and 1/3 more uses, French oak barrels. 24 months in barrels and 12 months in bottles.
Stabilization:
Completely natural methods, clarification using only egg whites.
Alcohol:
13,5% Vol.
Colour:
Red background and orange rim. Clearly with more color than the RODA II of previous vintages.
Nose:
Intense, rounder and more consistent than previous RODA II vintages. The character of the ripe red cherry dominates and there are even hints of black fruit.
There is a certain note of liquor and very pleasant sweetness and it has a certain connection with the great Bordeaux.
Palate:
It is wide with good volume, with a sensation of roundness, with a lot of fruit between red and black. The tannin is impeccable, very silky and has very good volume.
It is a high-level wine, very tasty, with a certain very pleasant liquor that was also appreciated on the nose.
The aftertaste is long and very rich in nuances.
It enters RODA's range of great vintages, after the two very complicated years that were 92 and 93.
Tasting held in Haro on March 29th, 2017
