CLIMATIC CYCLE
An excellent vintage.
568 mm. rainfall during the vegetative cycle. The 'high' temperatures in March and April caused an early budding of 15 days compared to 2010. During the month of July, the temperatures dropped, the average monthly temperature of 19ºC, and the differences with 2010 were reduced to one week at veraison.
The low rainfall in the summer months and the high temperatures of August and September, with a lower production of the vineyard, made that the harvest come early, between 15 and 20 days, compared to 2010.
Grape varieties:
91% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano, 1% Garnacha.
Vineyard:
Bush vines older than 30 years, mostly in Haro and its surroundings. Average yields 1,5 kg. per vine.
Production:
Alcoholic fermentation in French oak vats equipped with temperature control, followed by a malolactic fermentation in French oak barrrel.
Ageing:
14 months in French oak barrels (40% brand new and 60% second-use) and 30 months in bottle prior to its release.
Stabilization:
Completely natural methods, clarification using only egg whites.
Alcohol:
14,5% Vol.
Formats:
Bottles of 50 cl., 75 cl., 1,5 l., 3 l. and 6 l.
Colour:
Deep red colour and bigarreau cherry background.
Nose:
Good intensity, with a wide range of registers and very deep. It stands up the very ripe fruit profile with some blackness, in the range of the bigarreau cherries.
Palate:
It is voluminous, full and woolly. In the mouth, it opens up the fruits with ripe bigarreau cherries feeling and fine spices. It is full bodied, long, pleasant and powerful. It has a wide retronasal and very ripe and fresh fruit aftertaste. Full bodied feeling. The oak is very well integrated, enhancing the fruit feeling.
Good representative of the 2011 vintage, excellent in Rioja with an exceptional ripeness and slightly Mediterranean profile.
